Table-topping Strollers were caught out by the alley at the London Inn on a night when Hustlers won merely by being not quite so bad as the opposition.
The scene was set by Lloyd; brought in off the bench he scored an excellent 47 with no spare, pulling 13 pins on his man and bringing first leg home with an 8 pin advantage.
Second leg continued the good work. Without being spectacular, a further 7 pins were plundered off Strollers’ weakest leg and third leg were left with a generous 15 pin advantage.
Third leg was matched against what turned out to be Strollers’ best leg. Only Andy (again) beat his opponent and the result was a shortfall of 8 pins.
So last leg went in to bat (or bowl) against a top of the table last leg with a much slender lead of 7 pins. They need not have worried as Strollers’ last leg failed to match up to their hype and Hustlers pulled a further 9 pins for a 16 pin victory.
