Rampant Hustlers achieved their highest score of the season with a polished performance against Superstars at the United Services Club.
It even started well with Clive, John and Brian all scoring in the 40s. Each player gained on his opponent and the three of them set first leg into a flying lead with 18 pins.
Second leg was pitted against what turned out to be Superstars’ strongest leg, on which Malc’s opponent scored 53. Nevertheless Pete managed 40 with the help of a 12 spare while Chatz achieved his first 40 of the season (42), keeping the inevitable deficit to 13 pins.
With a narrow lead of just 5 pins, third leg set off with a bang. Neil laid down a 15 spare and finished with a top-scoring 52 while Andy scored his first 40 of the season (43), enabling third leg to top up the lead by a further 10 pins.
So last leg had 15 pins to lose, and how they tried ! Nevertheless, led by an excellent 45 from Lloyd they managed to keep their noses in front and on the final hand Superstars’ anchorman needed 9 to draw. He would have achieved it if his last ball had not touched the side wall but he was scored with 8 and Hustlers won by a single pin.
