The free food was the only positive to come out of a heavy defeat by the Brolly Boys at the Umbrella Inn.
First leg was marked by Malc’s – and the team’s – lowest score of the season, and his 22 pin deficit on his opponent served as a warning that this would be a difficult alley. John (with 40) and Rob together tied their opponents down however and second leg went in to bat some 20 pins down.
On second leg it was Pete H and Chatz’s turns to batter their opponents with scores of 41 and 44 respectively. It was Chatz’s highest score of the season but alas only helped to result in a gain of 3 pins on the leg.
Now 17 pins down, third leg failed to make any positive impression on the game, all three players losing a few pins, and the resulting shortfall of 11 pins left last leg with an almost impossible task.
Last leg saw our three brave lads trying to stave off a Brolly Boys’ onslaught. Although Captain Neilson did his best with an anchorman’s 42 the other two lost pins and, against an opposition leg of 132, Hustlers went down a further 19 pins to lose by 47.
