Three last-hand spares kept Hustlers well ahead of a muted Tabards team at the Old Pats Club. It was a satisfying revenge for their previous encounter when Tabards won by a single pin.
Hustlers took the lead from the start; led by Gary with 40, they engaged in hand by hand combat and by the end of the first leg they were 9 pins ahead.
Second leg was notable for both Wallsy and Pete H leaving their best scores until the last hand. Two spares resulted in a hand of 33, a score of 46 for Pete, and a further 15 pin haul to add to the total.
A lead of 24 pins enabled third leg to relax – perhaps too much as Lloyd and Dave became the first Hustlers to concede to their opposition this decade. On the other hand Clive, despite not at his best, managed to double his opponents score and this was enough to enable Hustlers to slither a further 7 pins ahead.
So last leg had a lead of 31 to defend and they did not mess about. With Chatz doing the heavy lifting with a 12 spare and finishing on top score with 48, the other two balanced the ship and enabled Hustlers to run out with a further 7 pin gain and an overall win by 38 pins.
