Home form continues to drag the Hustlers down as they bowed out of the Charities Cup at the London Inn by 24 pins. Only three players (Brian, Gary and John) pulled pins on their man during the match.
The first leg was close all the way until the last hand when a fine 24 gave Hustlers an unexpected 8 pin advantage with which to start second leg.
Any thoughts that this would spur Hustlers to greater things were soon dispelled. Both Hustlers’ lowest scores were on second leg which went down by 18 pins, leaving third leg with a deficit of 10 pins to make up.
Third leg was almost equally uninspiring but nevertheless managed to pull back a single pin, which gave last leg an only slightly less margin of 9 pins to catch.
To be fair it is probably true that Three Bees won the match rather than Hustlers losing it. Two scores of 40 on their side left Hustlers struggling to catch up and eventually losing the leg by 15 pins and the game by 24 pins.
