Hustlers continued their mini-run, now 3 wins on the trot, with a storming last leg against Globetrotters at the Old Pats Club.
First leg was fairly evenly matched. Pete started badly with a beaver but recovered well to beat his opponent while Rob proved that he is better warmed up on last leg. The outcome was a narrow 3 pin deficit against what turned out to be Globetrotters’ best leg.
Second leg was held together by Lloyd; his fine 44 could have been even higher but for a non-scoring spare. However, this proved to be Hustlers’ weakest leg, resulting in a further 7 pin slippage.
As with the first two hands that went before, third leg started badly and, as with Pete earlier, Chatz made up for a weak start. But it was Ant, with 40, who steadied the ship and ensured that Hustlers were still in the game with a single pin loss on the leg.
So last leg had 11 pins to make up. All three performed well with both Clive and Neil hitting good 40s – in fact half of Neil’s scores were 9s. Paradoxically though it was Gary with 39 who pulled most pins against an opponent who finished with only 27 and unwittingly gifted the win to Hustlers by a 7 pin margin.
