Our last home game of the season and Hustlers come up against old friends Cowley CC, looking to complete a rare double and pull away from the lower reaches of the league.
Despite Chris regaining possession of Barry the Brasilian Beaver and Rob missing out on our opening 40, first leg hung on to just drop 5 pins. With Malcolm making his home debut, second leg fared a little better, just dropping 2 pins, leving us trailing by 7 at the midpoint and all still to play for.
Although steve scored our only spare on the way to his highest score of the season, third leg struggled, dropping a further 8 pins, to leave the anchors an enticing total to chase down. And they went for it. Clive’s pair of nines helped him to our second, while Neil’s 9 helped him to our top score. But a mighty effort proved not quite enough as they could only pull back 5 pins, leaving us behind by ten at the end.
We have another break next week, for Easter, so reconvene the following week at Albion House for our final game of the season (and the Division?), hoping to avoid a double in the process. First to 1000 pins trophy is up for grabs this year: Neil only needs 74 pins, while Clive needs to scrape a 46 to claim the prize. Will it happen?
