A career defining 56 by Lloyd, with good backing by his team-mates, ensured that Hustlers avenged their home defeat by Strollers earlier in the season.First leg however gave no hint of what was to happen. Despite Neil hitting a 42, all three players lost to their opponents who scored an impressive 131 pins to take the leg by 16 pins.
Second leg was a Wallsey special, whose 44 was enough to cover small deficits by his two compatriots, and 9 pins were recovered from the Strollers’ first leg lead.
Third leg was nothing less than spectacular. Star of the show was Lloyd whose flattener and spare helped him to a greedy 56 pins. Gary supported well with 44 but soft-hearted Lofty took pity on a homeless meerkat with a non-scoring 9 in his 40. Despite a leg of 140 pins, Hustlers only clawed back 7 pins due to a decent 133 by the Strollers.
Nevertheless, this gave last leg a mere 2 pin deficit to claw back, and they set to it with enthusiasm. Rob and Swayner (both with 43) and Pete (41) all rose to the challenge and a fine last hand of 24 pins made life too difficult for Strollers, Hustlers running out the winners by 5 pins.
No game next week, then back to the Suffolk.
