Hustlers beat the alley-sharing Superstars to get the 2016-17 season off to a rip-roaring start at the Suffolk on Monday night. New captain Neil drip-fed two new players into the team, neither of whom disgraced themselves.
First leg was dominated by John, whose 41 formed the principal contribution towards a 7 pin lead at the end. Marty put in a creditable 38, spoilt only by a final 4.
Second leg saw new player Anthony demonstrate his potential with a consistently crafted 41. Chris disappointed in his last game before disappearing to get an -ology, possibly having over-exerted in his dual role as sticker, but the leg ended up losing only 2 pins.
Third leg was even closer; new player Chatz was unlucky with a beaver but Steve, backed up by Swayner, managed to limit the damage to just one pin, a score which was considerably enhanced by a fine last hand by all three players of 22.
So Hustlers went into last leg with a lead of just 4 pins. The game was effectively won by Gary, whose 48 included a 15 spare and, despite some spirited opposition by Superstars’ anchorman, Hustlers ran out the winners by 15 pins.
